Meet the Artist
About
Lauren Schwartz is an artist from Nashville, Tennessee, whose creative practice is rooted in over ten years of experience in painting. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), where her studies in design and painting helped shape both her technical skills and artistic approach. She draws on her graphic design background to inform her marketing and visual communication, while the painting and sculpture courses she pursued continue to influence her craft. Her work combines her design sensibility with her passion for painting and mixed media, creating a practice that continues to evolve through experimentation and exploration.
The Why
Her work explores the relationship between women and animals, focusing on tenderness, companionship, femininity, and independence. She uses imagery of women alongside dogs to reflect the growing tendency to treat pets as children and the changing ideas surrounding motherhood, family, and declining birth rates. Through painting and mixed media, she combines sensitivity with humor to highlight the sometimes absurd ways people seek love, nurture, and connection through their relationships with animals. Her work invites viewers to consider how these relationships reflect broader changes in womanhood, family, and contemporary life.
